Ancillary Task - The Magazine

I created a magazine cover in the style of 'Empire' using Adobe Fireworks. To ensure it was realistic I made sure I included the following conventions: Empire title, price and date, main image, cover lines, colours from the main image etc.
I had to use a number of different layers to create an effective magazine cover as I wanted the girl in front of the Empire masthead but the background behind it. This took a lot of time and effort as well as trial and error but I am very pleased with how it finally turned out.

ancillary magazine cover

After my research into film magazines, i decided that i wanted to create a copy of the Little White Lies cover as i thought my creative art skills would be best used. Furthermore i like the idea of each issue belonging to the chosen film i.e 'The Daisy Chained issue' as the whole cover can adervertise the film. I used the full face image of the character Daisy to follow the cohesiveness of the magazine along with the other conventions such as the logo, titles and the artist's signiture. I use the programmes Adobe Fireworks and Adobe Photoshop. I removed the photo background to later be replaced by a coloured background and added a cohessive creative title to follow the conventions of a Little White Lies Magazine cover.

Stephen poster:
PROS
-menicing to suit the film
-sinister atmosphere created by conventional thriller mise on scene

-very cohesive with the text, image and low-key lighting
-chilling quote to help indicate the theme of the teaser
CONS
-framing could be ajustied to make the character taller

Ancillary Task - The Poster

I created this poster using Adobe Fireworks. I desaturated the colour to make it fit the persona of the character and added a quote that fits the film well. I also included conventions such as the title, production credits, age certificate and main actors/actresses names. This ensured my poster looks as realistic and professional as possible.

How cohesive are the products?
I believe that after researching many promotional posters (including my earlier powerpoints), i have a greater understanding of the effect that cohesive products have. The idea of cohesive posters is to follow the theme of the film yet attract different audiences and I think this is a great way to complement all aspects of the different marketing products.

After researching different genres, i have come to the conclusion that many films have opted for a selection of individual character posters. Many of these, i have found, are animated comedy's however all are popular, well-known characters i.e. Toy Story 3, Shrek, Alice in Wonderland. I like this idea as i think it is the most affective way to attract different audiences, especially when it comes to young children as everyone has a favourite character. I will definitely consider this when it comes to creating my own.

The cohesive colours that are used link the posters to the film itself and adds a greater impact towards the genre and to the viewer, particularly if the genre is horror/thriller (Which ours is) as the dark atmosphere can attract the audience.

Release dates and titles are the most important aspects of each poster and i feel that cohesive fonts are more memorable towards the audience rather than constantly changing styles. Furthermore, I like the idea of including rhetorical questions and star ratings/reviews about the film as it can give the audience a greater attraction towards the film as we get an insight on viewers opinions.
